Welcome to Our Garden!

Several times a year, neighborhood children & friends
are invited to leave messages and wishes in the Faeryhouse Mailbox.
The Faeries always answer wishes (especially unselfish ones) with a message and
... a gift in return!

Pleasing the Faeries is simple...kindness to all creatures,
respect and care for Nature--all of Nature!
(PS: Wishes have come true! )

Here are pictures of the FaeryFolk Garden in Summer & Fall 2004:

We have a number of seed dispensers, and by filling them with a variety of favorite munchies,
plus some wildlife-friendly plantings in the garden,
plus a reliable source of water,
we've been rewarded by the frequent visits
(and often, the residence)
of a rainbow of fluttery friends!

Sparrows, of course; but also juncos, cardinals, mockingbirds,
robins, woodpeckers, titmice, chickadees,
doves, finches, crows, jays, wrens....even, on occasion, a hawk.
Sometimes, being on the coast as we are, we see seabirds fly overhead...

In the morning, Maggi gets the biggest kick out of how they all flutter into the nearby trees,
waiting and watching in response to her greeting-song
as she fills the feeders and the birdbath...

They share the yard with a group of furry-pals (aka squirrels),
including our resident squirrels, Zaccheus 1, Zach 2, Sweet William,
Falstaff, Yul Brynner, Bradley, and Kilroy.

And of course, we have a very shy chipmunk,
who has not yet been coaxed into a meeting,
but whose "front door" is right by the feeders.

They all get along great...in fact, friends and visitors
call our little wildlife preserve "The Peaceable Kingdom."
We like that!

The little garden sun cups his hands--
and in amazement, hides behind the mountains of snow...
will spring ever come?

Our furry pals share their feeder
occasionally with bluejays... but these pumpkin seeds
are a favorite main course,
and usually this feeder is busy all day!

This is our little "snowgoddess" --
she appears in the FaeryFolk Garden
during the winter,
while the Faeries are flown to warmer climates.
She receives friends
visible
and invisible,
and is here to keep watch
over the wintertide Peaceable Kingdom.

And finally, one day,
a little SnowBear appeared in the backyard,
greeting the neighborhood children with a balloon....

Summer Garden Salem '04

A hooded Snowmaiden in a hoop skirt holds forest greenery in her arms and greets you as you walk; a tray holds peanuts and other treats for furry visitors, bluejays, and others...

Fire at Imbolc/Candlemas
greets the returning Sun
as we travel towards Spring.
Meanwhile...it keeps us warm!

And then there's Zaccheus...
who hears the greeting-song sung as the birdfeeders are filled or as gardening chores are done
and comes visiting for his well-deserved snack.
